Okay, this isn't particularly funny, considering that we have at least two of these guys (i.e. we have seem them together, trying to eat the fish in our pond) living in our backyard. They're cute and all, and I can't resist their leathery articulate opposable-thumbed paws, but the last time we spent an evening on the deck, we had to contend with some very erratic behavior from our resident raccoons (sprinting back and forth, flipping somersaults, jumping in the pond, running up trees and then falling out of them). But rabies? No thanks! For a while, we were worried that they would antagonize our backyard guest menagerie of 4 stray cats, 2 opossums, and 15 doves (this as opposed to the indoor menagerie of 8 cats, 6 doves, 1,624 carpenter ants, and occasional moths); at this point, I'm just hoping I can survive barbecue season without receiving the money-bite.
And just in case you're not worried because the bears and raccoons that visit your house are the friendly variety, the article warns:
"A big clue is wild animals that act tame."
